H and 3g switching in Samsung Galaxy S2?

Anyone noticed on Samsung Galaxy S2, it switches to 3g until H is needed for data. If I'm in an H area it doesn't stay in that mode all the time. H drains battery more so on the gs1 could the same functioning be transported. In theory giving better battery life? Need your suggestion!!
